Shah Alam: Thailand sealed the Kuala Lumpur 2017 SEA Games women's futsal gold medal in emphatic fashion after beating Malaysia 12-0 in their final group tie at the Panasonic Sports Complex on Sunday.

The gold was Thailand's to lose after Vietnam had beaten Indonesia 2-1 in an earlier match, meaning only a heavy defeat could deny the three-time champions the title.

Thailand, however, were in an uncompromising mood against Malaysia as they went on a rampage from the start and took a 6-0 lead into the break.

There was to be no respite for Malaysia after the break as Thailand continued where they left off in the first half, adding another six to ensure they remain as the only nation to have won the SEA Games women's futsal gold medal.

As for Vietnam, their win over Indonesia meant they took the silver on the head-to-head count after both teams finished on seven points with an identical goal difference.

Indonesia had gone into Sunday's match level on points with Thailand but goals by Do Thi Nguyen (28th) and Trinh Nguyen Thanh (32nd) gave Vietnam the three points. Novita Murni Piran scored Indonesia's consolation in the 39th minute.
