Myanmar: Malaysia came from behind to claim a 3-2 win against Cambodia in their 2016 AFF Championship Group B opener at Thuwanna Stadium in Myanmar on Sunday.

Chan Vathanaka delighted Cambodian fans after beating the offside trap and slotting home after only seven minutes, but Syazwan Zainon restored parity for Malaysia in the 37th minute.

Cambodia responded in the best way possible in the 59th minute, Vathanaka restoring their one-goal advantage with his second goal of the afternoon. However, their lead lasted only ten minutes as Amri Yahyah finished from point blank range to pull Malaysia back into the game once more.

The Malaysian captain then turned the game on its head by making a great run into the box sidefooting past Son Yaty as Harimau Malaysia sealed three crucial points for Ong Kim Swee's side.

In the group's later game, Vietnam beat hosts Myanmar 2-1 to ensure an ideal start to their campaign.

The 2008 winners took the lead on 24 minutes when Nguyen Van Quyet unlocked the home defence before firing home.

Although Myanmar were finding it difficult to make much headway in the final third, their persistence finally paid off in the 73rd minute when Aung Thu turned on the edge of the box and drove a splendid shot into the bottom corner.

But the home fans' delight lasted only seven minutes as the talismanic Le Cong Vinh converted a Nguyen Trong Hoang cross to seal a win for Vietnam.
