Kuala Lumpur: Albirex Niigata FC (S) capped a wonderful defence of the S.League title by beating Geylang International FC 7-2 in their final match.

Albirex, who retained the title with an eight-point advantage over their closest challengers Tampines Rovers FC, received S$250,000 for their efforts.

Next up for Albirex is the Singapore Cup final against Philippines side Global Cebu on November 25 and a win will mean a complete sweep of the four titles at stake domestically, having also won the League Cup and Community Shield earlier in the season.

The S.League trophy was presented to Albirex by Football Association of Singapore (FAS) President Lim Kia Tong.

Meanwhile, Tampines Rovers FC finished first runners-up despite playing to a 0-0 draw with Protectors in their final match of the season on Saturday. They received a cash prize of S$125,000.

Second runners-up Home United FC were rewarded with S$60,000.
