Bandar Seri Begawan: A preparatory course for the AFC U-14 Regional Festival of Football 2016 for the ASEAN zone referees is now underway in Brunei Darussalam.

Fifteen young referees from Brunei, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam are taking part in the course taking place from July 20 to 24.

"I'd like to welcome all the participants to Brunei," said Pengiran Hj Mohiddin bin Pengiran Badarudin, General Secretary of the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD).

"We fell honoured to host the course for the second consecutive year and we hope that all the participants will enjoy staying in Brunei. I hope you will succeed in the course and the festival as it is the foundation to the high-level refereeing world.

Dr. Shamil K.Mohammed, AFC Manager of Youth Development, said: "AFC aims to provide a platform to discover and recruit talented young referees. Apart from learning about the Laws of the Game, the referees will also have a great opportunity to learn refereeing skills and values such as leadership, teamwork, confidence, tolerance, honesty and respect.

"AFC and NFABD will do the best to provide the best facility and learning experiences for all referees. And I'd like to encourage the participants to work closely with the instructors and support each other in order to gain more knowledge and gain experience."

AFC Referee Instructors Ismail Adnan Ismail Alhafi (Jordan) and Hakan Anaz (Australia) delievered the course.
