Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Disciplinary and Ethics Committee has decided to fine Shanghai SIPG FC (China PR) head coach Andre Villas-Boas for his offensive words at the referee and comments made at the post-match press conference after the AFC Champions League match Guangzhou Evergrande FC vs. Shanghai SIPG FC on September 12, 2017.

Villas-Boas was found in breach of Article 50.1 of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Code (bringing the game into disrepute). The fine of 14,000 USD is for a first-time violation and a repeat infringement will lead to a more severe punishment.

The Committee also ruled on the case of FC Istiklol (Tajikistan) player Artem Baranovskyi, who was found in breach of Article 47 of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Code (serious infringements punishable by expulsion) and faces a two-match suspension. This includes the one-match automatic suspension arising from his expulsion from the AFC Cup match Ceres Negros FC (Philippines) vs. FC Istiklol on September 12, 2017.

The two-match suspension shall be served in the following matches in the AFC Cup 2017 (Knock-out Stage) Inter-Zone Finals: FC Istiklol vs. JSW Bengaluru FC (India) on September 27, 2017 (automatic suspension); and JSW Bengaluru FC vs. FC Istiklol on October 18, 2017. Baranovskyi was also ordered to pay a fine of 1,000 USD.

The Committee also sanctioned Saudi Arabia’s Ah Ahli and China’s Guangzhou Evergrande FC 15,000 USD each for breaching Article 3.3.9 of the AFC Champions League 2017 Regulations after both clubs failed to attend and fully participate in an official event during the AFC Champions League quarter-finals on August 22, 2017.

Al Ahli FC’s Saleh Mohammed F Aljaman and Guangzhou Evergrande FC’s Wang Shangyuan were also fined 10,000 USD for breaching Article 44 of the AFC Champions League 2017 Regulations for failing to attend a flash interview.

All parties were informed that a repeat violation will be met with more severe punishment.
