Kuala Lumpur: Islamic Republic of Iran have remained Asia's top-ranked team, despite dropping three places to be 30th overall in the latest FIFA World Ranking.

Iran’s continued dominance sees them lead the way from Korea Republic, who claimed second spot after moving up seven spots to be ranked 37th globally, third-placed Japan (45th), Australia (48th) in fourth and Saudi Arabia (56th) who are ranked fifth in Asia.

All five teams are currently competing in the third round of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, a race to Russia that currently has an unbeaten Iran leading Group A and Saudi Arabia edging out Japan to sit atop Group B.

Elsewhere, Thailand’s continued renaissance helped them climb 17 places to be ranked 129th in the world, while Macau moved up 12 spots to be ranked 184th globally.
