GENERAL INFORMATION

The spirit of India has thus fascinated the world with its very mystique. A subcontinent with a 5000-year old history. A civilization united by its diversity - India has always been known as a land where history echoes itself with all its wonders in every piece of stone and every particle of dust.

New Delhi, the capital of India, is a bustling metropolis that has a good mix of modernization and carefully preserved antiquity. Sprawled over the west bank of the river Yamuna, it is one of the fastest growing cities in the world.

The city is known for its British architecture which now intermingles with the modern high rise buildings. It is a popular tourist destination with famous Mughal tombs, forts, temples and other monuments like India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, Red Fort, Jantar Mandir, Qutb Minar, Jama Masjid, Akshardham Temple and many more. The capital has a charming mix of old and new world. On one side  of it  are the old architectural sites, buzzing streets and exotic markets for shopping, and on the other side Delhi has magnificent malls, swan by over-bridges and lots of greenery. New Delhi is the preferred starting point for the popular Golden Triangle tour at a distance of 250 KM that comprises of New Delhi, Jaipur in Rajasthan and Agra in Uttar Pradesh where the Taj Mahal is situated.

New Delhi is also known for its world class sports infrastructure after having hosted two Asian Games (1951 & 1982) and a Commonwealth Games in 2010. The state of the art hospitals in the city has made New Delhi a popular destination for medical tourism.

New Delhi is very well connected by Air, Rail and Road. Indira Gandhi International Airport, situated to the southwest of Delhi, is the main gateway for the city's domestic and international air traffic. The conference venue, JW Marriot Hotel at the Aero City is situated adjacent to the airport runway. The main railway stations of Delhi are New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Old Delhi at a distance of 15-25 KM from the conference venue.  New Delhi also has a Metro which is a rapid transit system connecting Delhi with neighbouring national capital region cities like Gurgaon, Noida, and Ghaziabad. The Inter State Bus Terminal is 25 KM from the airport.

New Delhi has a wide variety of options for accommodation ranging from top end to budget hotels. The national capital is also known for its Mughlai cuisine. Other cuisines like Continental, Chinese are also readily available. The temperature in Delhi during the month of April generally varies from a min of 20°C to a max of 36°C. The currency is Indian Rupees which is freely exchangeable with  major foreign currencies. The communication set up in India is one of the best and cheapest in the world with internet, telephone and fax.
