BEIRUT: Jordan Cup champions Shabab Al Ordun set up an all-Jordanian AFC Cup final as they held Lebanon's Al Nejmeh to a scoreless draw at Beirut Sports City Stadium on Tuesday. The result gave Shabab Al Ordun a 1-0 aggregate victory as they advanced to meet defending champions Al Faisaly, who beat another Jordanian side Al Wihdat 3-2 on aggregate in the other semi-final on Monday. Both coaches made two changes to their first leg squads as Shabab Al Ordun coach Nizar Mahrous brought in Saleh Taha and Hazem Abuhussein for Raafat Mohammad and Mohannad Maharmeh. Al Nejmeh coach Nenad Stavric opted for an attacking formation with strikers Akram Moghrabi and Ali Nassereddine coming in for Ahmad El Naamani and Abbas Fadlallah. Shabab Al Ordun enjoyed the better start to the game and nearly opened the scoring after only three minutes when Issam Abu Touk launched a powerful long range shot which went just past the left upright. At the other end, Al Nejmeh had their first chance in the 13th minute when Nassereddine went close with a shot that flew just wide of the right post. The Lebanese side had another great chance on the half hour mark when Nassereddine made his way into the area before firing a powerful drive from 10 yards out into the side netting. Al Nejmeh continued their dominance in the second half and could have levelled the tie in the 55th minute when a 30-yard free kick by Serbian defender Milan Bugonovic was pushed out for a corner by Shabab Al Ordun goalkeeper Ahmed Nawwas. As the hosts poured forward in attack, they left their rear unguarded and were nearly punished on the hour when Odai Al Saify, who scored the only goal for Shabab Al Ordun in the first leg, broke clear with only the goalkeeper to beat but sent his effort over the crossbar. Al Nejmeh went close again when their other Serbian player Mirko Teodorovic fired over the crossbar 10 minutes before the end. The visitors nearly settled the match two minutes from the end as substitute Mustafa Aburomeh sent in a cross from the right flank which was met at close range by Al Saify, forcing a good save from Al Nejmeh goalkeeper Abdo Tafeh, who turn aside the shot for a corner. His effort would be in vain though as Shabab Al Ordun hung on for the draw, sending Al Nejmeh crashing out of the AFC Cup semi-finals for the second year in a row.
