AMMAN: Jordanians came out on the streets of Amman in large numbers to celebrate their team's historic achievement in the ongoing AFC Youth Championship in Kolkata on Monday. Jordan shocked fancied China 2-1 to not only storm into the semifinals of the event but also earn a ticket to the FIFA U-20 World Cup next year. Jordan Football Association (JFA)'s Director of Communications, Monaem Fakhouri told www.the-afc.com that the players would receive cash prizes for their surprise victory but the amount was yet to be decided. "The management board of the federation will meet soon to decide on the amount," he said. He said JFA president Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein had written a letter to Jordan's King Abdullah congratulating him on the team's success. "He dedicated this victory to the King and also thanked the players for their determined performance which helped the team reach the FIFA event for the first time in the country's football history," he added. "The Prince also praised Danish coach Jan Poulsen for building a superb team under his skilful guidance," he said.
