AMMAN: Al Wihdat of Jordan sacked coach Mohamed Mustapha on Friday, three days before the Jordanian outfit plays defending champions Al Faisaly in the all-Jordanian AFC Cup semifinals second leg. The decision was taken by the Al Wihdat bosses after much deliberation, following Mustapha’s failure to prevent Al Wihdat from crashing to a solitary goal defeat in the first leg of the continental competition on September 26. Al Wihdat will now play the crucial second leg at home on Tuesday under assistant coach Jamal Mohamed, looking to overturn the one-goal deficit for a place in the Final against either Al Muharraq of Bahrain or Al Nejmeh of Lebanon. Local media reported that Al Wihdat had approached Egyptian Mohamed Omar to take over the reins from Mustapha but the former preferred to sign for Egyptian outfit El Masri instead.
