KUCHING: It has been an interesting tournament. Several players in the AFC President's Cup tournament have emerged head and shoulders above the rest that the Technical Study Group (TSG) which is supposed to pick the Most Valuable Player (MVP) are having a tough time deciding. Fourteen matches have been played over eight days with the final between Dordoi-Dynamo and Vakhsh slotted for Sunday.
However, if one is to hazard a guess, the choice may just boil down to the two central midfielders with Dordoi-Dynamo. Sergey Kniazev and Aibek Bokoev have been inspirational. Dordoi-Dynamo didn't have the best of starts in the tournament, having lost 3-0 to Vakhsh in their opening clash. But they improved gradually, largely due to the influence of these two players, and of course Roman Kornilov, the tournament's joint topscorer with five goals. However, Vakhsh's Mikhrob Zakhurbekov should not be discounted either. He has been the mainstay of the team, leading his players whenever they tend to get into a rut. The other players who have been impressive are Chuang Yao-Tsung (Tatung), Chanthan Pok, Choe Ung-Chon, Kim Song-U (Khemara), Tashi Tsering, Sagar Thapa, Anil Gurung (Manang Marshyangdi Club), Chathura Siyaguna Kosgodadge, Kasun Weerarathna Jayasuriya and Pasqual Nadeeka Pushpakumara (Ratnam Sports Club).
