DHAKA: Wingers are rare commodities these days as most of the coaches prefer the fullbacks to do the job. But when it comes to deliver an inch-perfect cross from the flank, no fullback can possess the touch as lethal as a true winger. While a fullback rely mostly on speed, the winger must not only be fast but also has to possess dribbling skills that make him fearful. And Odil Irgashev of Tajikistan has already made his mark in the AFC challenge Cup as a class act. His exploits as a right winger, mastery with the dead-ball and sheer speed - he can run 100 metres at 13 seconds - have terrorised the rival defences now and again to create scoring opportunities for his teammates. And now the 29-year-old Regar-Tadaz midfielder is looking forward to build on his club success and win a second champion's medal in the continent in successive years. He scored one in his club's 3-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan rivals Dordoi in last year's AFC President's Cup final in Nepal and will love to repeat the feat again here. "My speed and skill, it is God-gifted," told Irgashev to www.the-afc.com.
"I have been playing for the national team since 2000 and I have five more players from my club. I train hard and really enjoy playing football," said Irgashev, who was inspirational in their massive 6-1 win over hosts Bangladesh. "This tournament has been very good for us. The facilities are very good and I like the food, although it's bit hot for our taste," said the winger.
