KATHMANDU: Tajikistan club Regar TadAZ stormed into the final of the inaugural AFC President's Cup by demolishing Sri Lankan rivals Blue Star 6-0 in the semi-finals on Thursday.
Blue Star never stood a chance against the whirlwind attack mounted by the Tajik club and were blown away in the one-sided encounter played in pleasant conditions. The match was attended by over 10,000 people at the Dashrath stadium.
Sukhrob Khadimov started the rout in the 13th minute and added another goal two minutes before half-time. Blue Star's goalkeeper Sugatha Thilakratne had to pick the ball out of his goal four more times when Khurshed Makhmudov (41th minute), Abdullo Umarbaev (70th minute), Maruf Rustamov (74th) and Shujoat Nematov (90th) let rip. Regar TadAZ, coached by Mahamdjon Habibuloev, qualified for the semi-finals after topping Group A while Blue Star were runners-up in Group B.
In the final on Saturday, the Tajik club will take on Kyrgyzstan's Dordoi Dynamo, who overcame Nepal's Three Star Club 4-3 on penalties.
