CHENGDU: Local club Zhonghe United are using Vision China as a platform for greater things.
The club finished second in the Chengdu City League, which is part of Vision China’s Project Chengdu. However, ambitious club manager Tang Yung said his dream is to create a totally professional club that will one day become a household name , not only in China, but around the world.
This is why the club’s logo has a international theme with English letters dominating the Chinese characters. Tang insists that he wants the club to one day become as famous as Spanish side Barcelona.
“We are putting in place a five-year plan to grow,” Tang said on Chinese website sina.com. “Of course, it is not easy because to become a good professional club you need a lot of money. But this is my dream.”
The club have already built a professional structure in which there is a strong management system, including one manager look after their foreign players.
One foreigner is Argentine Cesar Lugo, who is a student in Chengdu but has taken the league by storm with more than 40 goals in 22 matches.
Head coach Huang Shauqin shares the management’s desire for success and said his short-term goal is to win the Chengdu City League.
“We have a good team and I think we are ready to achieve our goal of winning the title next year,” said Huang. “We want to get one player from Spain and that will give us the quality we need on the field.”
