DHAKA: Brothers Union and Sheikh Russel shared the lead in the Bangladesh League before the Eid festival break.
The Dhaka giants were level on seven points after Russel's 5-0 victory over the visiting Khulna Abahani in Dhaka on Saturday. Veteran forward Alfaz Ahmed celebrated his recall in the national camp with the first hat-trick of the league that helped his team register the biggest win of the competition after three rounds. Alfaz scored in the 25th, 70th and 78th minutes.
Earlier, Brothers secured their second win with Nigerian striker Michael Oniya's 34th minute goal helping them edge past Chittagong Abahani 1-0.
Defending champions Abahani looked to bury their wretched start with a 2-0 defeat of Chittagong Mohammedan at home. National striker Zahid Hasan Emily and Nigerian midfielder Emeka Christina fired in the 12th and 22nd minutes in Abahani's second win in three matches that put them just behind the leaders with six points.
Farashganj and Arambagh both got their first wins after poor starts.
Enamul Haque celebrated his first call-up to the national squad with a brace in Farashganj's 2-1 win against fellow old Dhaka rivals Rahmatganj, who had briefly come back with Ugandan striker Idris Kasirye's first-half equaliser.
Imrul Hassan and Sirajul Karim scored in the last five minutes as Arambagh upset Muktijoddha 2-1. It was the third successive loss for Muktijoddha, who had taken the lead through Ajmal Hossain Biddyut's penalty after 28 minutes.
