| Port hold Shark, PEA lose spark |
CHONBURI – Reigning Thai champions Chonburi were surprisingly held to a goalless draw by struggling Port Authority but went top of the table after Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) lost 1-0 to BEC Tero Sasana.
Chonburi went into their 28th match of the season one point behind leaders PEA and were not expected to struggle against a Port side that had conceded 43 goals and won just times in 26 games.
But Somchad Yimsiri’s side proved a tough challenge for the Shark who failed to breach a resilient Port defence.
Despite the draw Chonburi took pole position thanks to PEA’s 1-0 loss BEC Tero Sasana, with Anon Sangsanoi scoring the 63rd minute winner for the inaugural AFC Champions League runners-up.
The win kept alive BEC Tero’s slim title hopes, with the two-time champions advancing to 51 points, four behind both PEA and Chonburi, who lead the way on goal difference.
Osotspa M-150 won 2-1 at Nakhon Pathom to consolidate their fourth-place position while the Telephone Organisation of Thailand delayed the Royal Thai Army’s inevitable relegation by one more round after they played out a goalless draw.
Bottom-of-the-table Customs Department recorded only their fourth win of the season thanks to a 2-1 defeat of Thailand Tobacco Monopoly while Samut Songkhram enjoyed an identical score line in their match with Coke Bangpra.
The weekend’s remaining matches ended all square as Chula Sinthana and Bangkok Bank drew with Krung Thai Bank (2-2) and Bangkok University (1-1) respectively.
