| Persik deny Persija top spot |
JAKARTA – Persija Jakarta missed the opportunity to go top of the 2008 Indonesia Super League standings after they slumped to a 3-1 home defeat to Persik Kediri.
Uruguayan striker Christian Gonzalez put the visitors one up with just four minutes on the clock before a quick-fire double from Indonesia forward Budi Sudarsono shortly after the interval gave Persik a commanding lead.
Sudarsono’s international team-mate Bambang Pumungkas netted a consolation for the home side as Persija dropped to fourth in the table below Persela Lamongan, who drew 2-2 with Arema Malang to move up to 23 points, one above the capital side.
Persipura Jayapura lead the way with 24 points, one more than Persiwa Wamena, who are above Persela on goal difference, but Persik have played two games less than the top three.
