IMPHAL: Vision India’s third Manipur State League got off to a rousing start with North Imphal Sporting Association taking the opening-round honours.
North Imphal scored a convincing 3-1 victory over North Eastern Re-Organisation and Cultural Association, with skipper N. Jimmy leading the way.
Jimmy scored the final goal while Y. Somorendo and L. Raman Singh also found the net for North Imphal . Surjit Singh earned a consolation goal for North Eastern.
The Manipur State League is part of Project Manipur under the overall umbrella of the AFC’s Vision Asia programme to lift the standard of football across the Asian continent.
Manipur Police Sporting Club also launched their campaign in winning style with a 1-0 victory over Eastern Sporting Union, Shanta Singh scoring the only goal.
Tiddim Road Unique Gamy Players Union also won 1-0, against Youth Welfare Club, thanks to a Surchand Singh goal while Tiddim Road Athletic Union were held 1-1 by All Moirang.
In the other match, Southern Sporting Union beat Phoudel Youth Club 2-1.
