ASHGABAT – AFC President’s Cup 2008 semi-finalists confirmed their place in the last eight of the Turkmenistan Cup with a comfortable 6-0 aggregate win over Ahal.
The Turkmenistan league champions’ place in the quarter-finals was all but assured after Ahal were handed a 4-0 thumping in the first leg in Ashgabat but Rahim Kurbanmamedov’s charges weren’t going lightly on their opponents.
Dayanchklych Urazov had the second leg wrapped up in the first 20 minutes with the Ashgabat forward opening the scoring in the 13th minute before sealing the win six minutes later.
Ashgabat’s victory sets up a mouth-watering quarter-final meeting between the league champions and the Turkmenistan Cup holders Shagadam, with the schedule still to be confirmed.
One date very much on Ashgabat’s radar is September 19, when they face Tajikistan’s Regar-TadAZ in their AFC President’s Cup semi-final clash in Bishkek.
