OSAKA: Gamba Osaka hitman Bare is set to leave for UAE’s Al Ahli after spending one and a half years with the AFC Champions League side, club officials said Tuesday.
"Bare asked me to allow the transfer saying he's been offered a lucrative deal. I want to release him on good terms," Gamba club president Kikuo Kanamori told Kyodo News.
An official announcement on the transfer will be made shortly, said officials.
Bare joined Gamba at the beginning of the 2007 season from Ventforet Kofu after helping the latter gain promotion and immediately established himself at the Osaka side, scoring 20 goals in 31 matches. The 26-year-old Brazilian has posted 10 goals in 18 matches since the start of the current season.
In stark contrast to his thriving domestic form, Bare managed just one goal in six outings in the AFC Champions League 2008 group stage this year though Gamba reached the quarter-finals where they have been paired with Syria’s Al Karama.
Gamba are currently in fourth position and two points behind leaders Kashima Antlers in the ongoing J-League while Bare’s new club finished third in the UAE League last season.
