| Uzbekistan Football Federation General Secretary Sardor Rakhmatullaev and Francesc Fabregas |
TASHKENT – Three of Spain’s Euro 2008-winning squad were in Tashkent on Monday to hold a football clinic for the Uzbek U-16s and the youth and reserve teams of AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Kuruvchi.
The trio, which consisted of Barcelona duo Carlos Puyol and Andrés Iniesta and mercurial Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, met with officials at the Uzbekistan Football Federation (UFF) before heading to the CSKA Stadium where they displayed their skills to the Uzbek youngsters and the Kuruvchi reserves.
Following the session Puyol, Iniesta, and Fàbregas signed autographs for the Kuruvchi fans before leaving for Europe later that evening.
Puyol and Iniesta’s soon-to-be former team-mate Samuel Eto’o has been offered a multi-million dollar short-term contract to play for Kuruvchi in the AFC Champions League knockout stage and for the remainder of the Uzbekistan league season having been told he is surplus to requirements at Barcelona.
The Cameroon international visited Tashkent to discuss the Kuruvchi offer and the three-time African footballer of the year is said to be weighing up his options.
