KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club (NPC) coach Birat Krishna Shrestha has been given the reins of the Himalayan Republic for the AFC Challenge Cup 2008 after German Thomas Flath failed to turn up for the assignment.
Shrestha, who guided NPC to second place in the AFC President’s Cup 2007, has also announced a 25-member squad for the eight-nation tournament to be played in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad from July 30 to August 10.
Strikers Santosh Shahukhala and Yougal Kishor Rai have been recalled while the injured trio of Ramesh Budhathoki, Kiran Chemzong and Bharat Khawas have been left out.
Nepal have been drawn with DPR Korea, Myanmar and Sri Lanka and will begin their campaign against Myanmar on July 31.
