JAKARTA: Singapore picked up their first point in the AFF U-16 Youth Championships after holding Australia to a 1-1 draw in their last group game here in the Indonesian capital on Tuesday.
Australia, who have already qualified for the final, were headed into the lead by Kerem Bulut off a Koh Satake corner in the 41st minute before Muhammad Muhaymin Salim equalised from close range for Singapore soon after the start of the second half.
In earlier outings, Australia defeated Bahrain (2-1), Indonesia (6-0), and Malaysia (4-1).
In another match, Malaysia defeated Indonesia 2-0, thanks to goals from Ahmad Fauzan Yahya in the 67th minute and Mohamed Amer Saidin two minutes before the end, to keep alive their hopes of a final berth.
The Malaysians now need to beat Bahrain in their final group match to guarantee their spot in the final which takes place on July 19.
Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Bahrain are preparing for the AFC U-16 Championship which takes place in Uzbekistan from October 4-19, 2008.
