GAFANHA DA NAZARE: AFC Challenge Cup 2008 hosts India registered their second consecutive tour victory in Portugal beating GD Gafanha 3-2 on Friday.
India started offensively at the Estadio da Gafanha and Bungo Singh gave India the lead while Sunil Chhetri doubled the advantage from the spot.
Coach Bob Houghton tested his reserve strength in the second half but defensive lapses helped the first division side of Aveiro League level the scores 2-2. Tarif Ahmed, however, headed home the match-winner for India nine minutes from time on a Denzil Franco corner.
India will play their next match on Sunday against Gouveia Select, a team they defeated 3-0 just days earlier.
India were drawn in Group A along side defending champions Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan in the AFC Challenge Cup and will begin their campaign against Afghanistan on July 30.
The South Asians were placed in Group C for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup final round qualifiers along with Uzbekistan, UAE and Malaysia.
