| Shahril sets up Home advantage |
SINGAPORE – A first-half goal from Shahril Ishak was enough to give AFC Cup 2008 quarter-finalists Home United the edge in their clash with Tampines Rovers in the last eight of the Singapore Cup.
The Singapore international bagged the only goal of the first leg match at Tampines when he headed home Shi Jiyai’s 31st minute free-kick to give the Protectors a slight advantage going into the return fixture on August 17.
Home’s fellow AFC Cup 2008 quarter-finalists Singapore Armed Forces drew 1-1 with the Super Reds in another Singapore Cup clash, while the Young Lions will play the second leg of their match-up with Bangkok University on Friday, with the Singapore U-23 side leading the 2006 AFC Champions League qualifiers 1-0.
Woodlands Wellington became the first team through to the semi-finals of the 2008 Singapore Cup when they defeated Thailand Tobacco Monopoly 4-2 on penalties after the two were locked at a 1-1 on aggregate after extra-time of the second leg.
