KUALA LUMPUR – The 2008 AFC President’s Cup semis will feature a rematch of last year’s final after defending champions Dordoi Dynamo were picked to face Nepal Police Club following Monday’s draw at AFC House.
Dordoi, who are looking to claim a hat-trick of President’s Cup titles after victory in 2007 and 2006, were the first team out of the hat and the four-time Kyrgyzstan league winners were then drawn to play in Semi-final 1.
Nepal Police Club, previously known as Mahendra Police Club, were the next team picked and they too were drawn in semi-final A, setting up a repeat of the 2007 final, which the Kathmandu-based outfit lost after going down 2-1 to Dordoi in Pakistan.
Semi-final 2 sees inaugural AFC President’s Cup champions Regar-TadAZ take on Ashgabat, who became the first team from Turkmenistan to reach the last four of the tournament after edging qualifying Group C ahead of group hosts and 2007 semi-finalists Ratnam of Sri Lanka and Myanmar’s Kanbawza.
Both semi-finals will be played on September 19 at the Spartak Stadium in Bishkek, home of Dordoi Dynamo, with the final taking place at the same venue two days later.
