DUSHANBE – Defending champions Regar-TadAZ faced first defeat in the Tajikistan League this season going down to Khudjand 1-0 in the 11th round recently.
Former Regar striker Mansur Khakimov netted the only goal of the match in the 79th minute.
Despite the defeat, the inaugural AFC President’s Cup winners remain on 23 points, one clear of Parvoz who have two games in hand after beating Dynamo 4-3.
Regar will be looking to build a winning momentum going into their AFC President’s Cup 2008 Group A campaign later this month, when they take on Nepal Police Club, WAPDA from Pakistan and Bangladesh’s Abahani.
If Regar finish top of the table in Kuala Lumpur then the Tajik side will complete a hat-trick of Central Asian qualifiers with Turkmenistan’s Ashgabat edging a three-way battle in Group C on head-to-head results and defending champions Dordoi-Dynamo from Kyrgyzstan topping Group B.
Regar open their 2008 AFC President’s Cup campaign when they take on WAPDA at the MPPJ Stadium on June 22.
