Kuala Lumpur: Nepal proved they are the best, beating India 2-0 on Wednesday to win the SAFF U-18 Championship.

Nepal's win at Bhutan's Changlimithang Stadium saw them pip Bangladesh to the title on head to head advantage.

India finished third with hosts Bhutan, who lost to 2-0 to Bangladesh in their final match, finishing fourth and Maldives fifth. 

“I am happy and very thrilled” said Nepal head coach Chiring Lopsang.

"The hard work and team spirit of the boys paid off and we are the champions."  

The championship was in preparation for the AFC U-19 Championship 2018 Qualifiers which will be held on October 24-November 8 across the Continent.

Nepal are in Group A of the Qualifiers alongside Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Kyrgyz Republic.

Bangladesh and Maldives will face Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Sri Lanka in Group B.

India, whose U-17 team are in their final phase of preparation for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, are in Group D of the AFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers with Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Turkmenistan.

The AFC U-19 Championship 2018 will be hosted by Indonesia.
