Sydney: Pioneering Australian international Billy Cook passed away at age of 77 on Sunday after a period of illness, Football Federation Australia said on Wednesday.

Australia’s 176th national team player, Cook was a member of the first Socceroos squad to enter FIFA World Cup qualification in 1965, when the Aussies were defeated over two legs by DPR Korea, who went on to represent Asia at the following year’s tournament in England.
