The AFC Annual Awards have evolved through the years since its inception in 1994. However, there are still no awards under the Sports Medicine category.

It is acknowledged that Team Doctors and Team Physiotherapists are instrumental in providing the best care possible to the players to facilitate their best performances. A number of Team Doctors and Team Physiotherapists have already long served the member associations and contributed in the development of football medicine nationally and internationally. There are also other sports medicine professionals who through the years have contributed to football medicine education and during competitions. Their contributions are worthy of recognition as well.

The AFC Football Medicine Awards aims to acknowledge and recognize the contribution of these medical professionals to the development of the game of football while also serving as an inspiration to others to continue their involvement in football at all levels.

The first (1st) AFC Medical Awards will be held in New Delhi in conjunction with the 5th AFC Medical Conference 2015 which is an excellent platform to hold the award ceremony as this is a gathering of the football medical fraternity within Asia, in addition to delegates coming from FIFA and from the other football confederations.
